A chain Italian restaurant, this place gives you exactly what you expect: reasonably priced Italian food with generous portions that tastes good, not great. The service was good when we went: the host was very friendly and seated us at a booth. Our waiter was also friendly and showed up more than I expected.
We had a party of 100 people on a Sunday afternoon. Our group took up a large portion of the lower level. The meal consisted of three courses, including the most delicious fried zucchini one of three options in course one. Course two was delicious as well. The pasta Bolognese was my favorite option Course two was average . However course three included cheese cake; the best I have eaten in a while. People where fighting over it and trying to take some home. All three courses were served family style and were refilled upon request. Alcoholic drinks were about $10 each but they were strong, so we all felt as though we got our moneys worth.
We got the veal and the spaghetti and meatballs. The pasta and sauce were fine. The veal was pretty good, but didn't blow my socks off. I think I would have gotten better value out of a chicken dish.
I know it's a chain but it is a great family spot for anyone downtown who does not want to make the trip to the North End ( Which you should do). They have a decent wine list and some of the best stuffed mushrooms, and as someone that does not care for mushrooms that is saying a lot. The entrees are of the "red sauce" style of Italian American fare but they hold together well if a bit heavy, great winter fare. They really do specialize in family style dining though so it is a great place to go if you have a group of four or more.
We go here at least once a year to celebrate something special. Service is excellent. Very busy on weekends, so expect to wait even with a reservation. The food is very good. Downside of being in the city is they have no parking & valet costs $20.
The bathrooms downstairs are a hoot. The lounge area will make you feel like it is the 1940s or 50s.
The wait staff was very friendly, helpful, checked on us periodically and were very organized. They handled the volume well and with a smile. Also, quite a few were bilingual; our Spanish speaking guests were able to easily communicate. Overall, this is a great spot for family, work parties or even just for date night.
Called at 3 to make a reservation for 8 called back at 530 to add someone to the reservation. They said my name wasn’t on the list, when I had already left my name and number with a lady before.
Update: went to the restaurant because my friends insisted. The wait staff should be fired. Rudely interrupted by the senior hostess. Sides came out before we even got our drinks. The food was good. Service was terrible. Dishes were served and the waitress disappeared while we were left with no silverware.
