The worst experience ever! They didn't respond to my several phone calls. When they replied to my emails after few days, it was apparent they didn't bother to read my email and answer my questions. Their misleading responses caused me lots of trouble.
Start the process as early as you can and good luck!
I found the site very helpful. When I contacted the consulate, their response was promptly and appropriate. I gravel a lot and have requested Schengen visas many times, this was the most user-friendly consulate I have found. Obrigada!
Don't waste your time calling or emailing, just show up there. They are understaffed and have no intention of helping you go through their inefficient visa process. I think the hate what they do.
The visa application that you need to fill to schedule an appointment is really tricky and they don't help you fill it up. Be careful, if you have any errors in filling, you will not know about it. Errors won't let you see the open slots for appointments.
I must say that considering that i have dealt with several foreign Consulates, the Portuguese is far from being the worst. The space is small and it's quite obvious that they have limited human resources which is more than likely the reason why they don't return phones calls as often as they should. The website is quite useful and all the information is there. With that being said, i went there today and i was helped by a young lady named Carolina who was not only knowledgeable but was also very polite. My wife and i were out of there in less that 20 minutes which is fantastic. Yes, there is room for improvement but any Portuguese who has renewed a document in Lisbon knows that a visit to the Consulate in Boston is a walk in the park in comparison.
Had the best experience ever in an embassy. Went for Schengen visa and my appointment was for 9 am. Reached around 5 minutes after 9. The officer took all the documents, reviewed everything, spoke so nicely and even suggested that my kids who are soccer players visit the benefica stadium. Overall I have been to many embassies.. This was a 5 star experience. Thank you.
THE worst consulate I have ever dealt with in my life. I emailed them with questions and never heard back. I called multiple times, it took weeks to get someone on the phone. When I finally spoke to someone, I got a detailed list of the documents I needed (which all needed to be procured in a different country, to make things easier). To make extra sure, I called back and asked again, and double checked my list. I then spent a YEAR gathering these documents, because since they had to be gathered abroad, I had to call in all sorts of favors. So I show up to my appointment, with all the exact documents they told me to bring, and they rejected the documents. They gave no explanation as to why I was told something different over the phone, but now they not only wanted the documents from abroad - they want all brand new copies, authenticated in various cities in a different country. I pointed out that I live locally and this is a ridiculous request, and they told me to just by a plane ticket and go take care of it - because of course every person can just drop their life and job, and drop $2,000 to fly around the world chasing documents. I have never had a more frustrating consular experience. They give you the wrong information, and treat you like crap. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and they said no.
