Loved it - until it was stolen last night! Hopefully I will find it, but I wanted to write this review anyway. I HIGHLY recommend Community Bike Supply. Trustworthy.
While the mechanics are truly wonderful, there are some critical problems with the business practices here (in my opinion) that need to be addressed before I would ever go back or would recommend to anyone else.
***If you do go here, I would absolutely write on the drop off slip (1) exactly what you want checked (2) what components they are authorized to replace and write on the slip that they must call you if something else arises (3) have a price on the drop off slip***
I've tried a few different bike shops around Boston for various installs and repairs, but Community Bikes has become my go-to. The times I've had them repair something for me, the work has been done on time and for less than I was quoted, and on most occasions it seems like they've done some additional tune-up because my bike feels like new when I leave. I've always been happy with the service I got here, and I would recommend it to anybody.
This is a family run business that offers the best service I have ever experienced at a bike shop. They always offer the best solutions to my repairs, they don't just go with what is going to make them money. They don't offer hipster attitude like I have experienced elsewhere, but instead are realistic to my needs as a year round commuter. Great place.
Like a few previous people, I too was (1) Charged for components that were not authorized or even discussed. Even when I explicitly said to call if something else arises. (2) They tried to up sell me on several items that I didn't really need and that were 10-25% more expensive than could be obtained via the internet. (3) Brought back the bike with the newly installed components because it was not angled to my liking and they even charged for that (well over $30).
Very affordable and quick repairs. Brought in a bike with a broken brake and gear cable in the late morning and could pick it up that same day in the afternoon. Friendly people and good service overall. Very pleased.
